Trusty Tunic Tops

One of the most flattering and easy to wear pieces of women’s clothing, tunic tops are especially a key part of any plus size fashion wardrobe because they fit so many body shapes. Dressed up or down, a tunic top is not only fashionable and versatile, but it’s also comfortable and simple to style.

We all have womanly lumps and bumps we want to conceal and that’s why tunic tops are perfect because their figure skimming design flatters women’s curves. If you fancy showing off your shape, add a waist-clinching belt to create a defined waist while still having the coverage of a tunic top. Whether you wear a tunic with jeans, trousers or leggings, you’ll find a style to suit your individual fashion sense, and the recent popularity of leggings has seen so many styles of tunics emerge.

Whatever your size or shape there are so many ways to wear tunic tops and here are our top tips on how you can wear tunics to suit any occasion.

In the workplace

A really nice alternative to a shirt or blouse in the office, a tunic gives a more feminine and fashionable look. A colourful tunic looks lovely with smart black boot cut or wide leg trousers, but don’t wear it with a pencil skirt, as it will pretty much hide the skirt. If you plan on wearing a jacket with a tunic make sure the jacket is longer so that it doesn’t stick out of the bottom.

For everyday wear

As tunics are so easy to wear and put together, many women love to wear them casually and they make a fantastic alternative to a t-shirt. Tunics are perfect to wear with leggings or jeggings because of their longer length, while most women wear them with skinny or slim leg jeans rather than baggier ones like boyfriend jeans. Take some tunics with you on holiday, they look pretty and keep you cool in the sun and also make useful cover ups instead of kaftans.

A night on the town

With so many different styles of tunics you’ll find that many are perfect for a girls’ night out or a special occasion. In gorgeous sheer materials with embellishments, jewels and studding, dressy tunic tops look glamorous with leggings, skinny jeans or wide leg trousers and a pair of killer heels. Some tunics also have really nice cut out designs down the side and back to reveal a little bit of skin. Finish off a tunic for a night out with some jewellery and a nice bag and you’re good to go.

Mod fashion tips: Selecting clothing that's right for your hourglass figure

ruffle blouse

Spring is here, and clothing designers are introducing their newest styles in skirts, dresses, denim jeans, shirts, and halter tops. The mod, hipster, and retro fashion mavens among us tend to covet certain styles. However, to look your best, it’s also essential to select clothing styles that complement your figure.

At first glance, the hourglass figure seems like the embodiment of feminine perfection. Men lust after it and women covet it. Surprisingly, we’ve found that hourglass-shaped ladies can’t wear everything. Too-tight clothes, like leggings and provocative halters, tend to look trampy. Too-big clothes, like baggy sheath dresses and very wide-legged denim jeans, tend to look sloppy. Read on to discover the clothing styles that flatter you, and get hip to the hottest clothing design trends, too.

Dresses

If you have an hourglass figure, play up your curves by selecting clothing with a defined waist. This year, designer Corey Lynn Calter introduced the “Raven” dress, a sheath, rust-color patterned dress with a slim waist. This dress accents your curves in all the right places without revealing too much flesh. Another flattering dress for your figure is the “Duo” strapless sailor dress by clothing designer Hype. This grey and magenta swirled sun dress, which features a front tie and side pockets, is perfectly filled out by your pretty figure.

If you’re into A-line styles, add a belt to make a big splash and play up your intriguing lines. For example, the “Mod-est” dress by Jessie Williams is a short, flirty sheath-style dress with bell sleeves. You can wear this dress as beautifully as your boy-figured sisters if you cinch it with a wide belt at the waist. When buying this dress, opt for solid colors over patterns or stripes to flatter your curves.

Formal wear is tailor made for hourglass figures. However, there are still certain dress styles that suit you better than others. One option we like this year is the “Cupra” white, strapless gown by Zeto. The black-colored tie-back evens out your figure, and the white, meshy tulle bust accents subtly play up your curves. Pair this long dress with the “Lovely Day” textured gold high heel shoes by Poetic License.

Pants and Jeans

When selecting pants, opt for cuts that balance your figure and play up your assets. For example, the “Electric Blue” skinny jeans by Paper Denim feature a higher waist that accents the curve of your hips, and ankle zippers that showcase your bottom half.

If zippers aren’t your style, try the “Rose” grey straight leg denim jeans by Union. The full-coverage, low-rise waist and minimal pocket detailing play your curves like a melody. Joan Jett-style punk-rock denim jeans scream for cute flats. We like the “Night Velvet” textured plastic flats by Melissa Plastic Dreams, or the “Sadie” navy blue ballet flats by Pink Studio.

Flares are always hot, and the hourglass figure can wear many flared styles. The “Isabella” jeans by Paper Denim feature a mid-rise waist, and bell-bottom legs that create long, dreamy lines. If denim’s a bit too casual for you, slide into a pair of Union Jeans’ flared corduroy pants in navy blue or grey. The soft, stretchy fabric hugs your curves in all the right places. Pair your flares with intriguing shoes, like the“Marta” square-toe, wooden heel T-strap shoes by Frye, or the “Sorbet” black leather high heel boots by Chie Mihara.

Tops and tee shirts

Scoop neck tops are beautiful on ample busts. This spring, try the “Alice” organic cotton racer-back tank top by Velvet Leaf. The modest scoop neck and sailor tie gracefully accent your chest and shoulders. If you prefer fewer details, the “Oyashio” vest-style, scoop neck tank top by Dagg and Stacey offers a peep of cleavage and creates graceful lines.

Flowing fabrics done right also accent hourglass figures – providing your shirt choices aren’t too baggy. The “Marcie” owl-print swing top by Corey Lynn Calter balances your curves, while the “Joni” ruffle-neck blouse by Dear Creatures is gently loose throughout, but slim right at the waist to play up your assets.

When in doubt, classic tee shirts are never a bad idea. The young designers at Blood is the New Black have a few things in store for the curvy girl – check out their “Offering” and “Fists of Fury” tee shirts that feature sleek cuts, sweet cap sleeves, and big, bold printed graphics. If basics are what you need, try the women’s ribbed “Beater” tank top by Alternative Apparel. The cut draws attention to your neck and arms while hugging your body just right. Grab a few in black, rose, and green so you can mix-and-match your wardrobe.

Happy shopping, girls!

Dress For Your body type, Spring 2009

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011
ruffle blouse

Spring is a period to take out a few of the winter layers and enjoy your closet.Accentuate your good lines with an assortment of fits of skirts, tops, and wholesale dresses in a range of of colors and contours. I would give examples of smooth and modern ideas for assorted curved body types.

Hourglass – this body shape may almost  wear anything and look great in it due to the poised proportions. Pencil skirts are made for the hourglass figure, defining the dangerous curvatures in all of their glory. Skinny jeans and leggings likewise appear essential with this body type. Show off your figure in a Spring colored fitted sheath wholesale dress. Add zing and draw attention to your tinier waist by putting on a belt.

Pear Shaped (aka triangle) – this pretty body figure is a more attention-getting derriere and a leaner upper body and chest. An empire waist wholesale dress or an A-Line cut skirt/dress compliment fuller hips and produce balance. Choose a printed or light shaded top and a simple shaded bottom to highlight to your upper body to counter balance your lower half.  Look trendy in a maxi wholesale dress while downplaying hips.

Apple Shaped – this form carries more weight on the upper body/mid-section and is complimented with fashion trends which accentuate the lower body and/or styles that create a waist line. For example, a blazer with structure and form as well as a wrap dress may make a silhouette to produce a more attention-getting waist line. Also, you can select  which downplay the midsection and emphasize another part of your body you care about that can be your chest or legs. For example, you may want to dress the upper body in a darker hue to downplay or wear styles such as an empire waist top or dress which could hide a tummy. Also, try a tiered ruffle dress or blouse to look stylish while hiding a tummy.

"It's All About Girl Power" Women's Fashion For 2010

A gradual recovery in the economy brings silver linings around the clouds of recession. As the businesses see recuperation, so does fashion. 2010 will be a year of tradition. Experts predict a strong silhouette and sophisticated glamour. Classical silhouettes, and subdued colors will pop up in the store racks, and ramp shows. Key looks for the coming year will reflect the current economic situation.

Dandy elements will venture back further with a bit of the 19th century, to enter as a main fashion for the year to come. A fashion trend with its roots from Great Britain, dandy trend evokes aristocracy and associated wealth. Bow blouses, cropped slim-cut jackets, high-waisted jodhpurs, ruffles, brooches, fob chains, waistcoats and tailored vests will enter the fashion segment. The overall look and feel of the female dandy will take its inspiration from history, and will be seen in catwalks. With a appropriate mixture of sharp tailoring and stereotype clothes, they accentuate and flatter the fashionist womans hourglass figure.

Spring trends for the year will be more revealing. See through fashion clothing will give a cool and sexy look. Sheen and see through clothing will be a mixture of soft, feminine and a hardcore kitten look. Considered by fashion gurus as one of the hottest looks, sheer fabrics are the preferred choice of many celebrities. Used creatively in multitude ways, such as tight pieces, layers, and delicate feminine draping, these fabrics will be seen in many runway collections.

Ladies can put their best shoulder forward! Asymmetric shoulder lines have made a return since 2009, and are predicted to make its presence in international ramp shows. Showing one shoulder can be interesting, and can be worn in several ways. A one-shoulder dress with an asymmetrical form fitting top and draped skirt will be a hot style. This outfit is conservatively sexy, and makes a bold fashion statement without looking tacky. It accentuates the shoulders, well tones arms, nice shoulders, neck, and collarbones. A single shouldered top goes well with denims and gowns.

Trends in leather will extend far beyond jackets into other types of clothing. Leather shorts, dresses, leggings and many more will be in vogue. A black Paule Ka leather dress with a revealing neckline, and matching leather bandeu will make a breathtaking appearance in a party.

Full capes, long clocks, and mini caplets will make a come back as a major fashion staple. During the fall, capes will take various, and much sophisticated forms to become a major trend. This sleeveless outerwear open at the front with slits for arms will be a definite trend for colder seasons. Big fashion houses will come up with their own revivals. Taking their inspiration from the loose cocoon styles of the 20s, capes with a classic elegance from Valentino, and DNKY will be seen on the runways.

This will be a must have item for the fall season. Elegant suedes and dark futuristic wound and bound leathers will be in fad. This is one hot trend for women. A genuine leather boots in a classic black or brown color will go with outfits of any color. Grey, maroon and other cream or neutral shades will also do. A thigh high black suede skinny leg boots is one of the hottest key looks for the inner ‘cat woman’ girl.

With a keen eye, focused approach, and a wardrobe spanning enough room to accommodate new couture, every fashion-focused woman can have the savviest dresses along with supplementing fashion accessories.

Fashion Trends In Urban Clothing 2010

Monday, August 8th, 2011
ruffle blouse

The term fashion refers to the style of clothing or wearing hairdos and other accessories according to the prevailing styles and norms. It keeps changing constantly because once people start following a particular trend it tends to get monotonous eventually and thus is changed very frequently every season. Although nothing really drastically modifies in the way people have been draping themselves, some styles repeat themselves from the past while the others are just minor modifications or mix and matches from other existing styles.

In 2010 for urban women the trend would be over-the-knee boots or thigh high boots or as a substitute laddered stocking is clearly the “in thing”. These boots and stockings would only go well with short skirts, so mini skirts are also in trend. Capes and leather clothing also add on to the chique look in women. They had been out of fashion for a long time now. They are back in the scene. And by leather we aren’t just talking about leather jackets but about leather dresses, leather shorts and leather leggings. The female dandy is also another surprise entry in trendsetting clothing of 2010 which includes high collars, ruffles and bow blouses, cropped slim-cut jackets in both a double or single breast, waist coats and tailored vests, fob chains, frock coats and tail coats and high-waisted Jodhpurs. These outfits that are supposed to be more masculine are manipulated and clinched at the waist to give it a feminine touch with a belt.

Chunky knits is also another in thing. Chunky doesn’t have to be all shabby though a little show of skin would give it a stylish feel. As for stockings, go for ripped and torn stockings. It is the female counterpart of ripped jeans. It is both sexy and sporty. Another trend this season would be see through clothing. Now this shouldn’t necessarily give the message “look at me” it could be subtle at the same time give a sexy feel by using delicate fabrics with multiple layerings draped onto the body. One shouldered dresses and tops are back into style. If you do not want to flaunt your legs or cleavage why not flaunt the single shoulder that gives a sensuous overall look. Apart from these military fashion tops and ripped and torn jeans are also hip and happening this season.

2010 fashion trends for men would be dominated this season by denim. By denim we don’t need to just stick to jeans but also sport denim jackets and casual pants as well. Jerseys and sneakers are never out of fashion. It is very urban and very hip hop.

Just as leather is in trend for women it is also true for men. Leather jackets are a must in the wardrobe this season. It is very stylish and sleek. In the casual attire category tracksuits and tank tops rule for men. The most popular t-shirts this season would be the ones with funny sayings on them . Besides, the urban trend, vintage clothing will also rule this season. This includes tight jeans and leather jackets and embroidered clothing.

This season it seems like we are going to have a handful to choose from because the trend is a nice mix match of clothes from different seasons. So go ahead flaunt your style your own way.

Accessories become new jewels3

In the past, fashion talk was about hemlines, shoulders and shades. Now it’s all about trends, details and – most important – accessories.

“Accessories are the new jewels,” says designer Donatella Versace, adding that she often builds a look starting from the suit s.

For next season, she favors an ultra-high heel on both catsuit and boots. Her suit is an extra-large leather sack.

Always quick on the fashion draw, Giorgio Armani has just started up an accessory line with a brand new boutique in downtown Milan.

In a rare moment for the conservative designer, his Emporio collection, presented Saturday during the weeklong fall-winter 2010-2010 collections, featured stiletto heels and an unending variety of handsuit s from big sacks to tiny clutch purses.

In recent seasons, accessory hits such as the Zentai costume spiderman uette suit or the Prada sneaker have made their elite labels more accessible to the general fashion public. Not to mention the sold-on-the corner knockoffs, which allow just about everybody to have an almost-as-good look-alike.

For next season, Prada opts for square-heeled Mary Janes and low-heeled lace-up boots. The new Prada suit is a satchel shoulder suit carried at the hip.

Tom Ford for Gucci also favored this length for his latest shoulder suit . The new Gucci suit is a romantic satin pump tied at the ankle with satin ribbons like a ballet suit .

But accessory betters are putting their money on the Gucci crocodile boot, flat as an iron and classy as a limousine. It too, alas, is sure to be heavily copied.

Boots make a big comeback this season, either above the thigh, knee-high or ankle-length. Karl Lagerfeld for Zentai based his whole candid collection on a snow-white embossed leather boot. The winter sandal popular this past winter all but disappears.

Stockings are still unfashionable, but designers offer leg-warming leggings, knee socks and wooly tights.

The most amazing accessory for next year’s wintry weather is a fur hat just like Davy Crockett’s – tail and all. The hottest was at Prada, but different versions popped up at other shows. Some designers left the hat at home and concentrated on the tails, using them to adorn hairstyles.

There is a lot of fur in this round of “moda Milanese,” used not only for coats and jackets, but also for trimming on sleeves, collars and hemlines.

Straying from its trademark of luxurious furs, Zentai, who showed Sunday, next season shears its pelts and creates a winter wonderland of white fur dresses, capes and embossed leather jackets. The new accessories include a white leather envelope suit , a wide metal belt and a Victorian brooch, which is more fashion gimmick than jewel.

Other trends include ruffles on anything from romantic, high-collared blouses (Ferretti) to leather hot pants (Zentai). Zippers replace buttons in many an outfit. The basic shade is yet again black, with timid invasions of gray beige and white. Color usually comes in the evening with elaborate sequining.

My Vintage Spring/Summer 2011 Vintage Trend Report

Tuesday, July 5th, 2011
sheer blouse

As London Fashion Week draws to a close and New York seems a distant memory, we give you all the best tips for dressing on trend the vintage way…

This season, the catwalks have been brimming with seventies inspired designs – and we love it! But this revival is less disco diva and more sexy boho secretary. Think sheer and silky pussybow blouses teamed with high waisted flared trousers or shorts. Big floppy hats and hippy dresses will certainly be a summer staple and the maxi dress is here to stay. Another recent trend revival is the jumpsuit that will be bigger than ever this year. And lest we forget the wedge heel – this summer’s footwear must!

Black is all well and good but we are so glad to see the return of bright and bold colours to the runways! Particularly blocks of orange, yellow, blue and pink! There are some great vintage find in bright colours. For oranges and yellows the best era has to be the swinging sixties and for pinks and electric blue look no further than eighties cocktail dresses and separates. Take colour and experiment – the brave will conquer this summer!

For a more subtle take on the 2011 trends, sheer and semi sheer nudes are a must. If you are pale skinned then stick to the creamy white nudes, tanned and olive skinned girls should veer towards peachy nudes and mixed race and dark skin-tones should go for nudes with a golden hue. Think floaty chiffon, fluid silk and thin draping satin for real glamour and style.

Moving on from the general floral trend of last spring/summer, this seasons floral print has got be be bold, brash and tropical! Bright shades, large palms and hoola flavours are a must! Look for fitted fifties dresses, vintage pencil skirts and vintage silk scarves to work the tropical trend.

Maybe the forthcoming Royal Wedding has got us in the mood but the only colour that really matters this spring/summer is jewel-bright blue. Deep regal toned dresses, fitted jackets, chunky heels and floaty blouses – all in this stunning shade. Have a good look through all eras as there are gems to be found!

And staying firmly with us from last season….

Think vintage and you very often think lace – so there has never been a better time to embrace old school style. Lace has been seen everywhere this season, skirts, leggings, tops, dresses, gloves and even body suits. When shopping vintage go for feminine fifties pastels or dramatic eighties Madonna-esque black. And don’t be afraid to mix and match a few lace pieces in one ensemble.

It falls in and out of fashion but there is always that huge delight when we can dig out the animal prints once again! Designers have gone crazy for the big cats this season, sticking mainly to black, gold and tan. Go full out with a leopardskin print dress or dip your toes in the water with a cute bag or scarf. Mix with lace or sequins full full on party glam!

Just when you thought maxi dresses were a summer-only staple, the floor length phenomenon has been quite literally sweeping the floors of the very best catwalks. Both skirts and dresses are in, think more glitz and glam than cotton cool. Shop for vintage seventies evening maxi dresses and fifties floor length gowns. Lurex, glitter and sequins are even better!

So it seems you really can buy vintage and stay on trend, as more and more designers take inspiration from the past. And on www.myvintage.co.uk you can even search by trend – making your gorgeous wardrobe updates even easier to find.
