- Casual dresses for the summer 2011 season are airy and cheery in colors, prints, and styles that dazzle the eyes. Mini and maxi dresses are still quite popular, as they set the tone for the occasion. Mini dresses are worn alone, to display legs fittingly adorned with stylish shoes, or are worn as tops for shorts or pants. On the other hand, Maxi dresses have evolved from a time past. Today’s garment has antique nostalgia in every stitch of the sheer fabric, and, allied with lace, it is a combination that oozes charm.

Women’s apparel, especially dresses, are created with pleats, soft or with an edge, incorporated into the style. Many hip-hugging and A-line styles that show off hourglass figures are accented by pleats on the bodice and/or in the skirts.

Other trends include necklines of clothing that are V-shaped to show off a necklace or scarf. Other styles have cutouts that allow skin to show. Still, some casual and even formal wear is decorated with fringe. “Tail hems” are a chic and flirty integration of maxi and mini lengths into one; the dress or skirt is longer in back than in front.

FORMAL WEAR

Many elements from dress styles in the casual section are carried over into formal wear by using a more elegant and in-depth styling. Furthermore, formal-wear fabrics are secondary only to the effect the dress style holds on the spectator. Fabrics include silk, taffeta, satin, chiffon, crepe, and more. Some fabrics are richly embroidered or detailed with cutouts, scallops, and lace, etc. Styles are infinite; strapless, spaghetti straps, or one-shoulder are all trendy.

SHOES

The summer of 2011 trends will continue to showcase the basic types of shoes: athletic shoes, boots, sandals, flats, dress, flip flops, and wedges. Heel styles and height continue to be the selling point of many types of shoes. Clogs, for instance, are available in numerous styles, colors, and materials. Wide straps and/or narrow straps allow the foot to peek through. Brass stud decorations have made the clog very popular. 

ACCESSORIES

Accessories are a must-have to complete almost all ensembles. Large hats with wavy brims are part of the1970s “silhouette” nostalgia. A wide array of accessories is available in nearly every department store, such as sunglasses that come in many shapes and sizes. Of them all, cat eyes and aviators are most popular. Jewelry, namely, necklaces are enormous and unusual in design. One style, above the others, is the collar, simple or sophisticated. Whereas other necklaces are multilayered, some have tribal bearings. Bracelets and watches are plentiful, chic and fun. Additionally, charm bracelets are still in style for the summer of 2011.

Last, but not least, are purses, bags, and clutches. Of the trends, none has evolved more so than the ladies’ purse. The daytime waist bag, or belt purse, has replaced most all other purses.
