If you think that you have a combination of problem areas i.e. not just a big bum but a small bust, then take this advices. The right swimsuit can literally take a dress size off you but beware, the wrong one can also add pounds so it really is worth taking the time to consider your body shape and shop around.

If you are trying to disguise a large tum, then stick to colours and patterns with a dark base or if you are wearing a two-piece then stay light on the top and stick to dark on the bottom. A Woman’s Guide to Looking Good on the Beach

Small on Top

If you’re small on top, you may want to try the newest, little swimsuits from Brazil. The Brazilian woman is generally smaller on top than the Australian girl, and their swimsuits are cut accordingly. Look for tops with a touch of padding, or an under wire, demi-bra style that makes the most of a beautiful, dainty, bust line. You are very lucky that you have the body to wear those cute, ruffled tops that are so hot right now, so go for it. And as for bandeau tops, only you can wear those well. Big on Top

For years, plus size teens and young adults had little in the way of choice for fashionable, youthful clothing. They were forced to shop at “fat” stores, and find the least conservative styles at the “plus size ladies or guys” store. Manufacturers and retail stores would call all their plus size clothing, “teen friendly” when in reality the large flower print smock type blouses didn’t even really appeal to old ladies! It took years for the s/m/l designer mindset to realize that the majority of women and men, let alone teens aren’t s/m/l.

Plus size pre-teens had it even worse. At that awkward growing stage, pre-teens had to buy jeans that were way too baggy, long and shapeless and even with alteration, they would grow out of them quickly. Swimming suits for pre-teens went to size 14 or 16 if they were lucky, and they were never sized properly or attractive. JC Penneys and Sears were about the only common brick and mortar stores with some choice for plus size pre-teen and plus size teen fashion. And of course, back then in the 80s and early 90s there wasn’t an internet and catalog companies didn’t cater to plus size teens either! Going back further, the fashion world all but ignored plus size people in general. There might be one large size store in town and the mumu house dress and the boxy navy suit were all they carried. Plus size teenage girls in the 50s and 60s had to resort to wearing men’s jeans and slacks and shirts in order not to look like a 60 year old grandmother. The 70s brought an appreciation and realization that one size did not fit all, and jean companies began to stretch their line to size 18 and 20 with some fashionable choices. Richard Simmons came on the fashion scene in the early 80s and brought a recognition that plus size women and men were people too and might want some style in the wardrobe. But it still took another 20 years for fashion to embrace a teenage, youthful plus size look.

My Search For Fashionable Plus Size Maternity Wear

I have been browsing over the plus size maternity wear categories in the online maternity wear stores for our plus size mums to be and have found plenty of plus size lingerie that includes plus size maternity bras, plus size nursing bras and an adequate number of plus size tummy support items at shops like Destination Maternity, Pea In The Pod and Motherhood which is all good because they are the most important items you need during and after your pregnancy.

I was also quite impressed with the variety of stylish plus size maternity bottoms including plus size jeans, plus size maternity pants and plus size maternity leggings at these stores and they do look great with any fashionable top and can be worn in a number of ways either dressed up or just casual. Then I progressed to the plus size maternity tops category and I must say I was a little disappointed with the limited number of plus size maternity tops available for our plus sizes to choose from and even more dissapoined with the range of plus size sweaters and plus size cardigans that consisted of just “6″ including a couple in granny styles.

Moving on I searched lots of different sites for plus size maternity dresses as from past efforts I know this category is really lacking in quantity and style as the most I was able to find at destination maternity was only “5″ plus size maternity dresses and only one suitable for our younger plus sizes. This was the same scenario at the all the other online maternity wear stores I check out and I really hope our plus size designers pick up on this sadly neglected group of ladies in waiting.
