Genetic
Genetic is the main cause of dark circles around the eyes. If you inherited the thin skin around the eyes, so when there is accumulation of blood around the eyes, the blackened area will be more visible in the skin around the eyes. Accumulation of blood around the eyes usually occur due to slow blood circulation in the area because of lack of sleep. When it kept going on and accumulate, then the capillaries becomes vulnerable to be widen and leak.

Age
With age, skin loses collagen and thinning. So that the blood vessels more easily visible from the outside. Direct sun exposure to skin is also increasingly accelerate this condition. Sunlight will break and damage the collagen skin color.

Allergies
Seasonal allergies also can be a major problem of the eye circles for some people. Allergies trigger histamine secretion in the body which then cause inflammation in blood vessels, which causes swelling.

As initial test you can pull the skin under your eyes gently. If the area changes color and becomes darker, black circle around your eyes could be caused by genetics or aging. But if the color does not change, the cause could be the UV rays from the sun or because of allergies.
