Beautiful Fashion Trendy Collection

Saturday, February 5th, 2011

Known for her swish designs, designer Anamika Khanna showcased her summer line at WIFW on the first day. The brand itself explains explains the story and raise the expectation for a beautiful trendy collection. Carrying forward her intrinsic sensibility of design, she created a set with hanging unlit bulbs in a series, also the heavy chain accessories used as neck pieces was something distinct but nothing bizarre. There were dresses, jackets, long jackets, kaftans and a lot more using various techniques such as cut and mesh work, however the showstopper garment was the same that we witnessed at Couture Week’08, also one of the pieces was a replica of the costume she carried at the IIFA awards 2009.

This was followed by Ashish N Soni. The audience witnessed a come back of little back dress in variations. We could see a little influence of the latest Manish Arora collection with ‘circular contours’ used as motifs in Ashish’s collection. The geeky goggles were witnessed at Nari’s show at LFW’AW 09, however, the nerdy look, messy hair and casual attitude of models on the runway gave a different essence to the show. The front row was full of serious buyers including Alka Nishar from AZA, Neha Hirani from Kimaya and a host of international buyers from Japan and France. Sunil Sethi, designers, Narendra Kumar and Nachiket Barve were also spotted there. All in all, a decent show! The Reviews:Alka Nishar (AZA):Anamika was very good as usual, her jackets and dresses were beautiful, and it’s good to see some serious fashion happening here. Ashish’s collection was reminiscent of little black dresses, actually, dresses are a big trend these days! Nachiket Barve (designer): I think more than one show, it’s the atmosphere that I am quite impressed with, I find more seriousness here. Known for is grandeur, ace designer Tarun Tahiliani unveiled his glamorous SS’10 collection at WIFW on 24th of Oct. Not only the sets but the collection was also grand and luxurious. Sticking to his traditional style, the designer showcased his Indian collection comprising of sarees, lehengas dresses and a lot more. Apparently a few pieces amongst the entire assortment were recycled from his previous collections shown at Delhi Fashion Week collection. However, his last sequence had a brand new essence comprising dresses, sarees, anarkalis and long dresses with variations. By the way, no rule book mentions that previous. The first glance of the set was actually a baharon phool barsao moment for the audiences! This hanging garden had a complete essence of floral world of fantasy with birds, peacocks and the waterfalls on the runway but lacked a little professional finish.

Apparently the ramp overshadowed the attire a little, however the name ‘TT’ is big enough to create a murmuring ‘wow’ sound echoing in the entire arena which was no surprise element at all. By and large it was a houseful show in comparison to the entire day and the arena overflowed with professionals, buyers, designers like Rohit Bal and people like Meher Rampal and so on. The Reviews: Lauwalah (Buyer from Kuwait):Tarun has become my favorite for last two seasons and the Indian touch in his designs just takes my heart away. The Indian essence has become global now and people actually look forward to that. Meher Rampal (ex model):Tarun stole away my hearts, as always!

Fashion Preview Collection

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

It’s all about going back to constructed compositions. Each garment in this collection has an intrinsic importance of decomposed value, the designer begins to explain. The collection is an assembly of eveningwear and daywear along with some pieces of bikinis which will offer a perfect line for the fresh summer season. It emphasizes more on colours and less of embellishments. With minimum embellishments we have tried to splash a plethora of colours on an array of joyful fabrics like linen, muslin, paper silk, satin georgette, gossamer cotton jersey andviscose jersey. Embellishments take their cue from the luscious classicism of Mackintosh-inspired botanical gardens in a rose-shaped cornice of hand-cut petals that move stealthily onto hems and necklines. The predominant shades include hues abstracted from accents of fennel, mustard, nutmeg, cayenne, sesame, cumin, rhododendron andanise.

My latest collection targets the Indian market as well caters to somebody who is nomadic and loves to experiment with their look, she added. Classical styles are revisited with be spoke finishes. Fitted and rounded silhouettes with reduced volumes. More structured styles with lowered hemlines, reinvented with folds, pleats and ornamental details make this collection more elegant. Simple essentials with sleeveless and drop shoulders, a constructed composition in silky viscose with transparent details are some of the high-points.

A vast range of kaftans, long robes, and large dresses, swim suits along with an assortment of bags, accessories and sandal sare worked-on canvas, napa and nylon with unfinished woven meshes. Talking about the look of the model on the ramp the designer was quite clear about her thoughts. The look will be fragile but real, with flaky gold and silver make-up, accessorized with flower pot head gears specially designed for the catwalk session. The man belongs to a family whose last six generations were lawyers and had no relevance with fashion industry, but Anand Bushanchose to break the tradition and become a fashion designer. Though he confessed that being an orator is in his genes, Anand always loved his clothes more than his mouth Stylekandy. comreveals more about the dislikes and preferences of this young designer.

Clothes are my love and despite minor hiccups in between, I couldn’t think of choosing any other profession but fashion. After finishing my education, I underwent an undergraduate program from NIFT, New Delhi and then finished my post graduation in 2008 from NID. That was the time when I got the platform to showcase at Lakme Gen Next and debuted with my own label the role of marketing in fashion.

After all conflicts and confusions between FDCI and FDPC, the former has finally announced its first annual Van Heusen India Men’s Week and unveiled the logo of the forthcoming event at a press conference in the capital recently. With this, the FDCI has managed to position India on the global platform and has been ranked as the fourth fashion capital of the World to host an independent Men’s Week. The event which will be a three day fashion gala from September 11-13 will be held at The Grand in the capital which will witness the presence of veteran and upcoming fashion designers and industry connoisseurs under one roof. The fashion week will showcase the best of Indian talent and will feature 15 shows and encompass over 40 exhibitors. The designers will focus on the various range of men’s fashion starting from men’s clothing to accessories.

Highlighting the requirement of an independent platform for men’s fashion, Sunil Sethi, President FDCI said, “Men are active participants and contributors to the growth of fashion today. Menswear dominates a larger per cent of branded apparel sales in the country and the Week aims to give menswear designers a structured momentum and a much needed platform to tap this potential segment of fashion.” Ask him the reason for the logo in all black and white and he says, (in a humorous way), “At least I can assure you that there is no grey in it.” Members present at the occasion include JJ Valaya, Nikhil and Shantanu, Rohit Bal, Varun Bahl, Manoviraj Khosla, Renyu Taandon, Rina Dhaka and Vijay Arora. Among the participating designers, Rina Dhaka is the only women! The first edition of this fashion extravaganza will also provide a unique prospect to promising talent through the ‘Van Heusen Emerging Designer of the Year Contest 2009′ which will be organized in association with FDCI.

The winner will not only be felicitated, but will garner an opportunity to present designs at the Fashion Week itself. This contest, commencing on August 5 will offer an open platform for students and professional fashion designers with an experience of three years or less. The contestants will be judged by a panel of independent jury. Among all, three finalists will be requested to create the line based on the submitted sketches and model measurements provided to them. The final three will exhibit their line at the fashion event. On the basis of the final presentation, the jury will select the winner and will be awarded the Van Heusen Emerging Designer of the Year trophy and an appropriate reward at an award ceremony.

Your future projects I will be in Paris for ‘Whosnext’ early Sept. Mid September is Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai. Early October, I will be participating in Tranoi, Paris. End Oct, there’s Wills India fashion Week. I recently started a kid’s wear line to be launched at the MUSE Mumbai. Side by side I am also working on regular collections of home furnishing for Portico New York. Pearls of wisdom for upcoming designers be it any designer, they really need to believe themselves that they always should come up with something unique and incompatible. Certainly training help them a lot to enhance their skill.
